I feel very curmudgeonly of late but watched the Elton set last night and was decidedly unimpressed with it, to give him his due the vocals were better than I actually expected but only due to the fact that people have got used to him singing in that "not quite working" lower key and forget how great and soaring his voice once was. As for the crowd? Typically Glastonbury now sadly, I have no idea why these people pay all that money to go and just stand and gawp, the camera pauses now and then on the odd person waving their arms around in a decidedly lack lustre manner but FFS, there's no joy of live music, everyone is just there to say "I was at Glastonbury" and post it on social media the next day. Every act is a dull "heritage" act (certainly the main ones) whether it's old ravers watching Fatboy Slim, old rockers watching Guns 'n' Roses, old punks watching Gen Sex or old pretend punks watching the Manics. Give me the old smokey sweat boxes of our youth than this middle age/middle class snooze fest any day of the week. Phew, glad I got that off my elderly chest.

Thanks Doug
Always enjoy a takedown
I had a very different reaction and thoroughly enjoyed his set
Also came to a different conclusion about the crowd
Vive la difference

All these cheesy straight acts headlining festivals, lol. Festivals used to be edgy. Did they though? To be fair, the '71 line up was cooler and it was free.

True but, much as I love The Kinks, they're hardly edgy
Wayne Fontana even less so
Who were the edgiest Glastonbuy headliners?
Stormzy?

So that makes it even less edgy? Tyrannosaurus Rex replaced them as headliners, I think. Likesay, Glastonbury was always considered a 'straights festival' by the freak community who preferred Stonehenge back in the day. It got a bit edgy in the 90's when it got infiltrated by crack-addled scally gangs, but not in a nice way.

Black Uhuru and Christy Moore are 'edgyish'. Political songs about downtrodden, struggling people.

Black Uhuru and Christy Moore are 'edgyish'. Political songs about downtrodden, struggling people. True. Probably as edgy as it ever got The interest is always further down the bill and on some of the specialist tents and stages In terms of the Glastonbury tradition, Stormzy was a hell of a departure from their normal headliner with Jay Z also, but to a lesser extent This was a great moment (after Noel Gallagher had complained about him being a headliner)... Jay-Z - Wonderwall/99 Problems (Glastonbury 2008)

There's nothing edgy about chart pap Quite So when was Glastonbury edgy? All these cheesy straight acts headlining festivals, lol. Festivals used to be edgy. I never said it was. Like all the proper freaks (who preferred free festivals back in the day) I sneered at it as a straights' festival.
