A new thread (and a new section) where you are invited to share your "album of the day"
Could be something you've never heard
Could be an old favourite
Could be obscure
Could be mainstream
You get the idea
So, an album you've played this very day
What is it?
What do you make of it?
To what extent would you recommend it?

A few to get through today. Pick of the bunch: Beatles Red and Blue albums.
From 1962 to 70, all the hits plus classic album tracks. Quite amazing how they go in five years from 4 track Love Me Do to the multi layered song within a song A Day In The Life. Tails off a bit towards the close, more the McCartney sweeping ballads. They won't last long in the racks, teens to OAPs, someone will scoop them up.

I've been listening to...
Very much an old favourite
It most especially reminds me of a few weeks in France with a bunch of mates during which it was the undisputed soundtrack
I also want to cop an ear to it having been shocked by its offhand dismissal by TP amigos Zeo and RP. Could it really be as derivative and downright low grade as their comments suggest? I'll try and be objective and report back.

They were a very clever band despite the misleading obviously punk name. That album has some really nice tunes on it. The one about Tipper Gore was and still is fantastic. She was a number one target by US punks back in the mid to late 80's.

Two listens
I'm convinced if this said The Jam on the cover Zeo and Rogue would have a major hard on for it
It's v similar to the likes of Tales from the Riverbank, English Rose etc. But more accomplished than both those tunes
After the first solo album, which is pretty good, this is the moment where PW gets his mojo back (even though, ironically, a few of the songs are about his lack of motivation). It's also PW confronting the end of his youth.
Either way, it contains some of his best songwriting
Part of Weller's problem is that his best known solo albums (Stanley Road + Heavy Soul) are a bit average

I remember Wild Wood was all the rage back in the mid 90's and I didn't like it then either. It's all relative as he did a lot worse than that.
It's a 3/10 album rather than a 0/10 album.
I didn't like'English Rose' either. Its twee and lifeless.
I get why people like certain records and all power to the memories.👍
I wouldn't expect you to like any of the stuff I like...why would you?

Chelsea - Evacuate Original punk harder to source nowadays, so a bit of surprise when this came in. Not the original press but a Captain Oi reissue with bonus tracks. Not heard it for ages but the title track will bring the memories flooding back plus two of the extra tunes Stand Out and Last Drink are a throwback to those great James Stevenson years. Aside, before lockdown a Northern promoter was looking to put them on. If you thought Gene October had mellowed over the years, apparently not. Still a dick.

That is a good album - though one I only discovered latterly
I used to see Gene all the time when he was street cleaning on Brighton seafront. Not sure where he's got to now.
I shook his hand a while back at a social thing we were both at and he held for a creepily long time. Obviously something he does to try to freak people out.
He's still looking good though. Whips his shirt off at the drop of a hat and he's ripped like Iggy as the young uns say (see also Jimmy Pursey). Funny how some punks stay lean and mean whilst others seem to go the other way.

Yep the skinny ones like Gene and Pursey are probably into the drugs(allegedly)whilst the fat ones like Steve Jones(and everyone else)are probably ex druggies/alkies😀
