The time is coming when we will dread summer. Just think about that.
Happy fuckin days.

Classic headline in The Guardian today:
"Are heatwaves harmful to mental health?"
Well, they are when newspapers like The Guardian run with days of banner headlines like "The Earth screams out its rage", "We're all going to burn" and "Thousands will die in killer heatwave". (Note: I made these up, but the actual headlines – which I can't remember verbatim – were pretty similar.)

^ In fairness to the media, who mainly adopted a similar tone, more people do die in heatwaves
PLUS fires raging all over London and elsewhere, along with all manner of other indicators, is a sign that we must act now to get to net zero yet which wannabe Tory leader is even mentioning it in passing

(Note: I made these up, but the actual headlines – which I can't remember verbatim – were pretty similar.) SKY news... Many parts of the UK are today counting the cost of the country's hottest day on record, with homes and businesses claimed by wildfires as temperatures topped 40C. Flames ripped through homes as Britain was scorched by extreme heat and the country glimpsed what could be the new reality in the summer months. A ring of fires in and around London saw a major incident declared in the capital, with people being evacuated and many taken to hospital. All around the country firefighters were inundated with calls, with one fire chief calling the "brutal" day a "game-changer" and a preview of the effects of climate change. The Met Office said 34 observation sites across England provisionally broke the previous all-time record, ranging from Bramham, in West Yorkshire, to Charlwood, in Surrey, while a further five had equalled it on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop by up to 10C in some areas on Wednesday, with heavy showers and thunderstorms to lash parts of the country, potentially causing localised flooding. However other parts of the UK will still see highs of up to 30C and with little rain for months in some areas, the threat of wildfires remains.

The time is coming when we will dread summer. Just think about that. Happy fuckin days. Summer isn't my favourite anyway , when I ran and raced regularly , I could deal with snow , rain , ice , cold , wind .....but not heat .My worst races were mostly in hit weather . Luckily last week on that bloody hottest day ever , we were in caves at Matlock Bath for some of it , but went up to Bakewell and it hit 41 on the car temp , in the town there was a wind that felt like something out of a fan oven . The only positive about this if it is going to be a regular thing in future is most of us probably won't be around to see too much of it after say 2050 or so . Experts go on about reducing car pollution and emissions etc .....but the basic problem is that they don't like saying that there are actually too many people going about their business the world wide , too many of us basically and population is said to be hitting 9 billion or so by 2050 . It's not a nice thing to say , I know , but the problem is the population.

My white arse melted to a rotten, wafer-thin mattress in Amsterdam earlier this week with only a knee-high oscillating fan to preserve my form. We should have went nuclear long ago.

Imagine .......getting into an old 1970's car with plastic seats , shit or no air conditioning etc.You sat on or in those things and it did burn your skin off, at least modern car seats don't get like that .

Yes Jon. My first car was a Hillman Hunter, one air vent if I remember right. An oven in the summer and a fridge in the winter.

Steady rainfall and a little thunder here yesterday afternoon and evening. Woke up this morning to see it had rained again in the night and now there's a steady drizzle.
I'd rather have this than the very hot weather.

We had the thunderstorms at about 4.30am yesterday morning. I'm told the lightning was quite spectacular, but I have blackout blinds so it was the deafening thunder that awoke me. Lashing rain then started, meaning I had to close the window and grab a towel to mop the windowsill.

been using a couple of oil filled radiators to avoid heating the whole house, but it's getting sodding cold.

It's baltic in the morning but I'm up and out within 10 minutes for work.
I'll put on the heating as and when as I wouldn't freeze for anyone.
My wee office in the health centre is nice and warm, stick the radio on it's nice and cosy.
My days of working outside are well gone.
